About SUM | Everything is a collection

Our story

SUM began with three founders: Sasindu, Udesh and Madhusha. Put their initials together and you get S + U + M. The name works on a second level too. In mathematics, a sum is what you get when you add separate things together, and the Greek letter sigma (Σ) is the symbol for adding up a series. That is the idea behind the whole company: separate skills, people and businesses that are worth more together than apart.

Instead of building one business, we built a family of them. Each SUM subsidiary focuses on its own field, from engineering and learning to creative production, community work and online commerce. They share a name, a standard of quality and the people behind them, so a project that starts in one subsidiary can draw on the skills of all the others.

The story behind every name in the SUM family is in our blog post Why we are called SUM.
